Production-inventory control under environmental constraints

Article Abstract:

The effect of emission charges and limits on the production-inventory control of a firm has been studied by using a modified Holt-Modigliani-Muth-Simon model. Results indicate that production and inventory level decrease linearly when the cost of environmental policy is convex. However, inventory level decreases if the pollution tax coefficient increases when quadratic pollution is considered. It has also been observed that the pollution standards reduce the production possibilities.

Aggregate planning with continuous time

Article Abstract:

The production smoothing problem was first analyzed as an extension of the classical production-inventory problem, yielding planning horizon and an algorithm for optimal solutions. The model is given another dimension by integrating undertime-overtime and hiring-firing costs in continuous time. Under such conditions, optimal workforce level decreases monotonically during production interval.

Production strategies under environmental constraints in an Arrow-Karlin model

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze how environmental policies influence the production-inventory decisions of a company. To this end, optimal control theory was utilized to examine optimal production policies. The environmental policy was then analyzed against a combined charges and limits policy. In addition, special cases when environmental regulations are ineffective were discussed.
