Experiments in Evidence Composition in a Speech Understanding System

Article Abstract:

A simple speech understanding system is presented. It evaluates the global evidence of a pattern based on the evidence of sub- patterns. Each sub-pattern level is associated with an Expert system which recognizes the relationships of other Experts connected to it. Two flows of information, top-down and bottom-up, provide communication among the Experts. Speed and parallelism in making decisions make this method well-suited for real-time problems.

Information Content of an Evidence

Article Abstract:

Probability functions are typically used to describe several situations. Two new functions concerning probability are introduced. Belief functions represent the degree of our belief that a proposition is true. Possibility functions represent the degree of logical support a proposition gives another proposition. Both are defined axiomatically. The measure of information content of an evidence which induces either function is presented.
