Productivity and quality: a natural marriage for profit

Article Abstract:

U.S. industries must improve their productivity and quality of product to compete effectively in the world market place. Cooperation between government, labor and industry must be increased. Money spent on research has decreased and the technology gap is increasing between U.S. and other countries. Increased automation can greatly increase workers productivity.

Hughes Aircraft Co. has implemented a quality circle program which involves over 4,000 employees in more than 500 quality circles. This program, combined with an improved materials procurement and management program, will enable Hughes to realize the goal of improved productivity.
