Article Abstract:

Professional recognition for chemical research, which leads to career advancement, more funding and greater employment satisfaction, and whether women are getting their fair share of that recognition are discussed. Recipients of the American Chemical Society (ACS) awards have been studied to see whether the low number of female award recipients is justified, given the increasing presence of women in the workplace, in research, and in society. The data show that more attention should be paid to those awards intended for those doing research in applied fields as well as in basic research.
