Proposed ISO 9000 revisions get thumbs up

Article Abstract:

Revisions by Technical Committee (TC) 176 on the ISO 9000 quality-management standards are expected to be published around 2000. TC 176, in response to feedback from organizations making use of the standards, is expected to improve the standards' applicability to a wider range of organizations and products. A key aspect of the revision will focus on unifying the various series of the ISO and other standards into one standard to lessen confusion among users.

CMM slashes scrap to less than 1%, opens new doors

Article Abstract:

Kenlee Precision Corp. reduced the rejection rate of its chromatography receivers to less than 1% by using a coordinate-measuring machine (CMM). The CMM boasts of a rate of 2.5 mm volumetric accuracy and repeatability to gage-block measurement within 1 mm. It also provides data for the firm's statistical-process-control software. Earlier, Kenlee had a 30% rejection rate due to the firm's inability to measure tighter receiver tolerances.
