Quality helps both cars and plumbing

Article Abstract:

The UK manufacturing industry must adopt modern quality concepts such as total quality management and design for manufacture if it is to meet growing demands for quality in manufacturing. It is vital that manufacturers ensure that their products are designed so that they are completely suitable for use, especially if components are obtained from a number of different sources. This has already been seen in the car industry, where quality and reliability have improved greatly over recent years.

Standing up to the standards strain

Article Abstract:

Manufacturers should strictly observe physical standards and not limit their quality programs to following process standards imposed by standards making organizations. Unlike process standards, physical standards are uniform regardless of industry because they are based on internationally agreed units of measurement. Manufacturers should realize that following physical standards through good calibration practices helps ensure that their products are of the highest quality.
