Recover heat from hot solids

Article Abstract:

Chemical process industries can recover considerable amount of energy from cooling of hot particulate solids via air or water. Different types of equipment can be used for heat transfer from solids, including stationary, rotary, conveyor and fluidized-bed coolers. In determining the appropriate equipment, companies should consider exact process application, cost and environmental issues.

Use peer-review of chemical processes for extra safety

Article Abstract:

Solutia Inc uses a safety management system to ensure that it has the safest, lowest-incident, chemical process facility. The system, to be effective, must be subjected to an independent peer review. Peer review is defined as the recruitment of a cross-disciplined, and competent group of persons who are not members of the project and of the department where the process takes place.

Negotiate a favorable air operating permit

Article Abstract:

Chemical processors are advised to internally evaluate how their Title V permit application impacts their facility operations as they submit the permit application to the US Environmental Protection Agency. Facilities are also advised to contact EPA early and revise the permit application to capitalize on EPA's flexibility. Permit negotiating techniques are also discussed.
