Recovering and recycling low-boiling alcohols and ketones

Article Abstract:

Chemical process industry firms are turning to extractive distillation in their campaign to lower their discharge of organic compounds. This process provides a safer procedure to breaking azeotropes for the recovery and recycling of low-boiling chemical solvents. Extractive distillation uses a third component to break the water-ethanol binary azeotrope. The extractive agent then lowers water's activity coefficient, making the solvent-water system act ideally.

Develop a sound quality-assurance plan

Article Abstract:

Operators of chemical process facilities and electric utilities are required to develop a quality-assurance (QA) plan which presents in detail procedures for operating and managing continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS). A sound QA plan should be easily available to technicians and auditors so that regulatory compliance can be assured. For quality to be assured in CEMS data, analyzers in the system must pass three quality- assurance tests.

Protecting cleanroom personnel & products

Article Abstract:

Chemical industries have an ethical responsibility to ensure the health and safety of personnel. Regulations require the use of systems to make sure that airborne particles are captured, contained and under control. Cleanrooms are used to offer an environment that is not contaminated by a predetermined quality and quantity of powder, dust or vapor. Air filtration may also be used to minimize the effect of airborne particles.
