The integration of manufacturing process automation and building systems, such as heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, is a trend that will not be quickly adopted by manufacturers. Although the idea presents definite advantages to the manufacturers, particularly in the area of cost savings, there are still some issues that must be effectively addressed. These include the architectures and protocols that will be used and the range of its applications.
