An experimental evaluation of input devices for pointing work

Article Abstract:

Experiments on pointing time, accuracy, mental work load and psychological ease to operate were conducted to investigate the pointing device operation. Results reveal a difference in accuracy, pointing time and mental work load with different amounts of movement of the pointing device and amounts of movement of the pointer on the screen, making it difficult to achieve eye-hand coordination. Among pointing devices considered, the direct tablet proved to a better device in terms of pointing time and pointing accuracy, unless high pointing accuracy is required.
