Scaling up laboratory and pilot plant reactors to commercial-sized, full- scale factory units frequently presents considerable challenges to chemical engineers, and it is of paramount importance to them to understand and solve the problems that may arise. There are four common types of reactors, namely, batch, semi-batch, continuous stirred tank and tubular reactors.
