Article Abstract:

Digital television is being introduced in the United Kingdom in autumn 1998 and this will provide considerable work for installers because the installation differs from terrestrial television. Blocks of flats will need an integrated reception system, with one dish and cable to serve the whole block and an outlet in each house. Installers have to be experts and the Confederation of Aerial Industries has a list of qualified people. It is more cost-effective to install the new integrated reception systems than try to convert old cable systems.

An inspector calls

Article Abstract:

The ECA has agreed to set up a registration system for electrical contractors to ensure that their work meets the European Norm. Approved companies will be included in a list called Constructionline and they will be able to do work in the public sector. A periodic technical assessment will be carried out on companies wishing to be included on the list. An industry standard has to be set up which will apply to all areas of installation work, such as security and alarms, lighting and data cabling.
