Technology eyed for mercury control

Article Abstract:

Hamon Research-Cottrell, Somerville, NJ-based company, has revealed that its advanced compact hybrid particulate collector is included in a full- scale demonstration trial to evaluate mercury reduction in coal-fired power plants. The collector is already being used by two boilers at Alabama Power Co's EC gaston Steam Plant in Wilsonville, AL. The collector is composed of a pulse jet collector with a high air-to-cloth ratio.

Wasterwater treatment project ends in success

Article Abstract:

ThermoEnergy Corp's Sludge-to-Oil Reactor System (STORS) was used in the $3-million wastewater treatment project conducted in the greater Los Angeles area in California. STORS, combined with the firm's Ammonia Recovery Process (ARP), was successful in converting raw sewage sludge into high-energy fuel. The company claims that the STORS/ARP system can be integrated with existing wastewater treatment plants.

Consider a case-based system for control of complex processes

Article Abstract:

An evaluation of case-based reasoning systems (CBRSs) are control methodologies for complex processes showed effective results in terms of improved control. Although a CBRS was effectively applied to an activated sludge circuit for a biological wastewater treatment facility, testing indicated that hybrid systems that integrate various techniques will produce more optimal results.
