Telecom R & D binds French tech park to Georgia Tech

Article Abstract:

Georgia Tech Lorraine (GTI) was established by the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1990 at the Technopole Metz 2000, one of France's largest technology centers which specializes in telecommunications and software development. GTI mainly provides mechanical and electrical engineering education and offers degrees for Master of Science and PhDlevels. GTI has recently increased its involvement in computer and telecommunications research and is currently collaborating in research projects with several French universities.

Research collaborations drive global telecoms industry

Article Abstract:

The drive to develop the next generation mobile communication technology has resulted in a wave of collaborative efforts among the industry's major players. Third-generation mobile telecommunication technology, also known as 3G, is based on code division multiple access air interface, a technology developed in 1989 for military applications. Companies that have formed various alliances include Motorola Inc, L.M. Ericsson AB, Lucent Technologies Inc, Nokia OY, Sony Corp and Panasonic.

3M extending audit program to its technical service

Article Abstract:

Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co. (3M) will introduce the technical service audit, which will be modelled after the company's successful technical audit, to evaluate performance, particularly with regard to customer interfaces. In evaluating technical service, auditors will provide both numerical ratings and essay comments. Conclusions and recommendations will then be drawn from the observations of both the internal and external auditors.
