Telemanufacturing: a flexible manufacturing solution

Article Abstract:

The manufacturing and design outsourcing procedure called telemanufacturing is presented. Telemanufacturing is the task of subcontracting the design and production of items through communication networks and information highways. Companies that intend to use telemanufacturing must comply with two basic requirements. The availability of Internet service providers should be ensured in carrying out functions such as product development, process planning and scheduling. An in-house control system to coordinate production activities and functions should also be present.

Design for automated assembly of circular parts: an algorithm

Article Abstract:

Concurrent engineering is one of several newly developed concepts in manufacturing efficiency where design and production are integrated to maximize the output process. An automated assembly model is considered for the peg in hole product. The model defines an assembly process where input and output costs are minimized while production capacity and output are maximized. Such a system must consider tolerance, allowance and robot repeatability for the circular part.

Minimizing total weighted completion time at a pre-assembly stage composed of two feeding machines

Article Abstract:

A machine aggregation algorithm based on a weighted shortest processing time rule reduces total weighted completion time in a two-stage assembly line scheduling problem. The algorithm works by aggregating the job processing times into a single sequence of information. Then, the WSPT rule is applied to generate a permutation schedule for each stages. The algorithm is programmed in C-language and tests are performed on a 586-PC.
