Cable channels for interactive game shows set

Article Abstract:

Sony Corp's Sony Pictures Entertainment unit and International Family Entertainment Inc both have plans to launch interactive game show cable television channels in 1993. Sony will work in partnership with United Video Satellite Group to bring an advertiser-supported service with 10 million subscribers to the airwaves. Sony owns the game shows 'Wheel of Fortune' and 'Jeopardy,' among others. United Video is a satellite programming distributor, with such products as Prevue Guide and Sneak Prevue Channels. International Family Entertainment Inc will initiate the Game Channel, an interactive network offering both familiar and original game shows 24 hours a day. Game Technologies Inc will design and produce new games for the channel, which will use 1-900 interactive telephone technology. The current market for cable networks is extremely challenging, given the economic climate.
