The problem with CALS: barriers to the development of product data exchange and the US continuous acquisition and life-cycle support programme

Article Abstract:

The continuous acquisition and life-cycle support (CALS) program has not lived up to the expectations of advocates where data exchange developments occur slowly. However, the US CALS program is still predicted to play a significant role in establishing product data exchange standards. Such standards will encompass an organization's data exchange and internal data-handling methods. The CALS program aims to make a company's internal working practices and inter-organizational relationships conform with standards.
