Visual smoke detector beats the human eye

Article Abstract:

Intelsec Security Systems has developed a new smoke detector which can detect smoke before it is visible to the human eye. The detector, known as VSD-8, is used together with closed circuit television (CCTV) and it works by analysing images from the CCTV and identifying any of the characteristics of smoke which its special software enables it to spot. An alarm is automatically sounded and a television picture of the area is shown to the operator. The detector can be used with any CCTV and could have numerous applications in many different buildings.

Integrated CAD beats interfacing hollow

Article Abstract:

Integrated computer-aided engineering (CAE) is better than interfaced CAM, CAD and others, as it only uses one information database throughout its system. Interfaced systems link several modules, so more than one database must be maintained. This means that new software or upgrading is more of a problem. Really integrated systems exclude any need to export or import information from one database to another, thus avoiding the loss of accuracy in interfaced systems.
