Web-style intranet speeds design flow

Article Abstract:

The Web and Internet are becoming increasingly important in the product development process. Projects are becoming bigger and more complex, and at the same time, less time is available for projects' completion, and these factors favor Web-enablement. Agilent is an example of a company using the Web to streamline project development. Agilent's intranet permits the company's engineering, marketing, design, and manufacturing divisions to share information about a product they all are working on, even though different stages of the development process might be involved.

Lasers speed up board production

Article Abstract:

Conductor patterns can be written directly onto photoresist using laser beams. The technique, called laser direct imaging (LDI), reduces production time of circuit-board prototypes by half. So far, production of printed circuits using LDI amounts to less than 1 percent of the worldwide volume, but the percent is expected to increase. LDI systems vendors include: Etec Systems; Orbotech; Creo; and Pentax.
