When quality is a matter of taste, use reliability indexes

Article Abstract:

Reliability indexes provide techniques for making subjective measurements in industry, those that cannot be measured with physical instruments. Kappa techniques are used for nonquantitative data rating, for attributes such as 'good' and 'bad,' and intraclass correlation is used for ratings on a scale. Consistent agreement among rates suggest the rating system is accurate. Misclassifications are treated equally in Kappa but not in intraclass correlation. If the data is arranged orderly and the distance observed between them is almost same, the intraclass correlation is used.

How to construct a basic quality manual

Article Abstract:

A good corporate quality manual giving details of a company's plans, policies, and quality procedures goes a long way in raising the image of the company. The preparation of the manual is not a difficult task. A thorough review of other quality manuals would help the preparation of a manual, which could be circulated to the various sections of the organization for approval or modifications. The final version could then be designed to appear attractive for customer appeal. A reference to the ISO 9000 registration should be incorporated in the manual.

At the pre-design stage, McDevitt Street Bovis was called in to coordinate the different process involved in the construction of the $134 million facility. Moreover, the contractor depended heavily on key inputs by the center's administrators and personnel. A discussion of the quality-oriented approach undertaken in constructing the facility is presented.
