Assessing habitat disturbance using an historical perspective: the case of Salisbury Plain military training area

Article Abstract:

Research using image analysis software and aerial photograph analysis indicates that habitat disturbance in England's Salisbury Plain military training area is occurring at a more rapid rate than regeneration through natural processes. The increase of bare-ground expanses between the 1940s and 1990s suggests that the region's chalk grassland flora and fauna are at significant risk.

Progress with implementing local air-quality management in rural areas of England

Article Abstract:

A comparison is presented on England's air quality management practices between rural and urban regions. Rural regions were found to face different challenges than those of urban areas, including airborne pollutants from sources outside rural boundaries, and a lack of history and experience in developing air quality management strategies.
