Exploring the links between natural resource use and biophysical status in the waterways of the North Rupununi, Guyana

Article Abstract:

The results of a pilot study carried out to investigate water use by the Makushi Amerindians is presented and baseline data on the hydro-morphological aspects of the waterways is collected with methods like informal interviews, the use of the River Habitat Survey (RHS) and water quality measurements. Heavy reliance of the Makushi on the waterways for their daily lives, particularly fishing is observed.

Methodology for public monitoring of total coliforms, Escherichia coli and toxicity in waterways by Canadian high school students

Article Abstract:

Public participation is increasingly important in the field of environmental management. A methodology is presented for the public monitoring of water quality, by measuring total coliforms, in waterways by Canadian high school students.
