Cannibalism-mediated life history plasticity to combined time and food stress

Article Abstract:

The effects of cannibalism on the life history of the damselfly Lestes viridis under combinations of time stress and food stress is studied. Cannibalism is more frequent under both time stress and food stress and the results show that it may help the cannibals to compensate for the negative effects of these constraints imposed on life history.

The potential for predation induced somatic embryogenesis in storage cotyledons

Article Abstract:

The potential for somatic embryogenesis in storage cotyledons from species chosen due to the embryo contained visible evidence of an embryonic root-shoot axis that was examined. The experiment showed that somatic embryogenesis in storage cotyledons may be a more widespread phenomenon in tropical floras than currently considered.

Patch based predation in a southern Appalachian stream

Article Abstract:

The impact of predatory benthic fishes on benthic macroinvertebrate density, biomass, and community structure at the patch scale in Ball Creek, a fourth order stream in western North Carolina is assessed. Results illustrate the heterogeneity of streams and the effect of small-scale differences on local processes.
