China's fragile future

Article Abstract:

The environmental activist group Greenpeace intends to work closely with the Chinese authorities on issues regarding environmental protection. It set up an office in Hong Kong, China, in Feb 1997 and plans to take appropriate action where necessary to continue its cause. Greenpeace is providing Chinese consumers with advice on environmentally-friendly alternatives to products which damage the environment.

Removing the GOP blinders

Article Abstract:

The 'Contract with America' threatens the gains that have occurred in environmental protection since the 1960s. The GOP wants the government to use cost-benefit analysis to establish environmental standards, even though this method is unrealistic. Concerned citizens should contact their senators.

Article Abstract:

The last session of the US Congress produced very few laws for the protection of the environment. The Republican landslide in the last election will have positive as well as negative effects on the environmental movement.
