Density regulation in annual plant communities under variable resource levels

Article Abstract:

The study tested the hypotheses using the annual plant communities that regulation of abundance in plants occurs at the level of entire communities, not just within species, and such regulation is strongest when resources are most limiting. Strong evidence was found for greater density dependence and stronger regulation of abundance at lower irrigation levels, which were more resource limited.

Population regulation and demography in a harvested freshwater crayfish from Madagascar

Article Abstract:

A large-scale mark-recapture study of an endemic freshwater crayfish from Madagascar is presented. The findings suggest evidence of density dependence in fecundity operating through the proportion of reproductive females by size, but no significant evidence of density dependence in growth.

The density of Anolis lizards is evaluated as a function of island area, habitat diversity and topographic diversity on the Grenadines islands. A hump-shaped-density-area relationship is found.
