Diversification of rainforest faunas: an integrated molecular approach

Article Abstract:

Research on rain forest animals in Australia, Africa and South America found several mutually shared characteristics. These include pre-Pleistocene divergence of extant sister taxa, areas of recent geological or climatic instability displaying a higher number of species of more recent origin, and that gradient and allopatric models support conservation efforts for diversifying selection over a wider geographic range.

Conspecific sperm and pollen precedence and speciation

Article Abstract:

Conspecific sperm and pollen precedence are discussed relative to speciation and mechanisms of postinsemination barriers to fertilization and how they isolate closely related taxa. Includes a terminology discussion and a brief history of the study of reproductive isolation with consideration of unseen factors which have hidden postinsemination barriers to fertilization from the perspective of evolutionists.

African Cichlid fishes: model systems for evolutionary biology

Article Abstract:

Cichlidae from African lakes are presented as ideal models for observing evolutionary progress. Reasons include geological boundaries, divergence rapidity, trophic adaptation and behavior diversity, and the large number of species within a given environmental setting.
