When range expansion rate is faster in marginal habitats

Article Abstract:

A report shows that a medium-sized cervid-the roe deer (capreolus capreolus) increases its expansion rate 3- to 20-fold in marginal habitats by performing a conditional dispersal strategy in accordance with the balanced-exchange dispersal model. In order to evaluate rate for roe deer in the study, 10 km regular point coverage was established covering all areas invaded by roe deer from 1850 to 1980.

Trait and density mediated indirect interactions in simple food webs

Article Abstract:

Indirect trait-mediated interactions in simple resource consumer-predator food webs with those that are density-mediated are compared. Further, two well documented responses of consumers to predation risk, decrease in consumer activity and habitat switch, are focused.
