Environmental health effects in the east Baltic region: assessment and prevention

Article Abstract:

A number of environmental problems are occurring in the East Baltic Region, including an increase in mortality rates among people middle-age, but little information is available, according to a Apr 1997 conference on the subject by the Royal Swedish Academy of Science. Radon exposure, ambient air pollution and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are some of areas of concern in the Baltic region.

Institutions, environmental management and long-term ecological sustenance

Article Abstract:

Developing a sustainable environmental policy requires the establishment of distinct social agencies to create and implement sustainability goals. The mutually influential interplay between agencies and individuals provides understanding of environmental issues and reinforcement of agency authority. Agencies can be based on different democratic and technocratic models.

Cold War and the environment: The role of Finland in international environmental politics in the Baltic Sea region

Article Abstract:

The Convention on the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Baltic Sea Area are studied and examined. The Analysis reveals that the Cold War politics highly affected the negotiations and contents of the Convention, as the Soviet Union adopted the environmental issues as tools for power politics.
