Social choice procedure in water resource management

Article Abstract:

The effects of an unconventional land management practice in the Ponderosa pine forest in Flagstaff, AZ, is evaluated using a social choice method of water resource management. The procedures may be used whenever different alternatives are assessed by policymakers or if there are conflicting measures of effectiveness. The approach is more appropriate when the criteria are not measurable, objective function values are difficult to obtain or if the values are indecisive.

A net-back analysis of irrigation water demand in East Anglia

Article Abstract:

A net-back analysis on irrigation water demand in the East Anglia region of the UK was conducted. A simple net-back model was introduced to estimate farmers' willingness to pay for irrigation water with and without subsidies. The estimate was compared with estimates of the long-run marginal cost of water. Agricultural subsidies were found to be the main determinant of agricultural production profitability in the region.
