Issues in managing the risks associated with perchlorate in drinking water

Article Abstract:

Some aquifers or waterways in the US may be contaminated by perchlorate salts. These are used in rockets and missiles and are mostly linked to the military, space program and supporting industries. Such water pollution could be prevented by stopping water from coming into contact with polluted soil or industri waste, by using impermeable barriers. Several major assessment studies of risk in terms of health and environmental impact will be released by the US Environmental Protection Agency. A unique team based governmental response to the problem is described.
