Life on the edge: the demography of short-season populations of deer mice

Article Abstract:

Comparisons between deer mice populations of short-season environments and temperate environments revealed no distinct population variability for either type. Research was conducted on Peromyscus maniculatus populations in the Kananaskis Valley of Alberta, Canada, from 1979 to 1997.

Progeny sex ratio variation in ungulates: maternal age meets environmental perturbation of demography

Article Abstract:

Research on the Asiatic wild ass shows that the presence of a dominance hierarchy is the primary factor in determining the species' progeny sex ratio. If a dominance hierarchy has a low impact on maternal condition, the progeny sex ratio variation will then be influenced by age.

Results of a food addition experiment in a north-central Chile small mammal assemblage: evidence for the role of "bottom-up" factors

Article Abstract:

Studies on pre- and post-El Nino small mammal populations in Chile indicate that bottom-up factors can control species numbers by raising carrying capacity temporarily through food availability.
