Limits of insecticide cockroach control in council flats in France

Article Abstract:

A series of professional cockroach insecticide treatments in council flats in France show that residents play a big role in treatment effectiveness. The application of one of the three main groups of insecticides every two months for a one year period did not help as much as expected. . This can be explained partly by variables, such as crowdedness of a flat and how clean the flat is kept. However, no single factor can explain it.

The use of general foraging kairomones in a generalist parasitoid

Article Abstract:

Interactions between the larval parasitoid Lariophagus distinguendus, its host beetle species, and the beetle's plant hosts are examined, focusing on the learning of cues regarding host selection. L. distinguendus failed to respond innately to plant seed cues, but did respond to fecal cues from host species. These findings demonstrates increased host recognition after experience.

Population dynamics of host-parasite interactions in a cockroach-oxyuroid system

Article Abstract:

Research is presented on the urban cockroach species Blattella germanica and its oxyuroid or nematode parasite Blatticola blattae. The parasite reduced female hosts' oothecae productivity, but had no impact on adult host survival rates; however, it had a pronounced negative affect on survival rate of host species larvae.
