Nest predation and habitat change interact to influence Siberian jay numbers

Article Abstract:

Siberian jays breeding in northern Sweden are studied to examine the potential for interactions between nest predation and reduced vegetation heterogeneity around nest sites to cause a decrease in jay numbers. The results identify a mechanism through which predation and human-induced reduction in nesting cover on a larger scale may interact to cause a reduction in Siberian jay numbers larger than expected from habitat loss alone.

Competition, predation and species responses to environmental change

Article Abstract:

Predation that should mitigate species responses to environmental change and interspecific competition that should aggravate such responses are predicted through models. It is suggested that models that ignore inherent complexities in ecological communities may be inadequate in forecasting species responses to environmental change due to asymmetric and temperature-change interactions.

Is predation on waterfowl nests density dependent?-tests at three spatial scales

Article Abstract:

The predation on duck nests was tested, which was density dependent at three spatial, scales using artificial and natural nests in the Suisun Marsh, California, USA. The results provide no evidence of density-dependent on duck nests at any scale of analysis.
