On rethinking resistance

Article Abstract:

The use of poststructuralist critical theory to warn environmentalists setting up another hierarchical power structure by the mere replacement of a reality construction is acknowledged, but only to a certain degree. For while categorical thinking and binary oppositions have a tendency to formulate false oppositions, it is also in these categorical oppositions where present troubles are rooted. The deconstruction of essentialist discourse is said to have failed to lay the groundwork for the opposition of the environmental movement.
