The Oden Declaration

Article Abstract:

The Royal Colloquium was held on board the M.V. Oden in the presence of the Royal family as well as a group of fifteen international scientists during which the participants explored the scientific and policy implications of an 'Arctic Under Stress: A Thawing Tundra'. The Arctic is experiencing rapid and severe climatic change, which is expected to affect the rest of the world over the next 100 years through increased global warming and rising sea levels and it has become necessary to create awareness through such scientific discussions.

Backyard of the rich North: The climate change-related vicious circle of the Arctic zone

Article Abstract:

Climate changes in the Arctic zone have already brought about changes in the region and it is projected that these changes are only going to increase in the coming years. Russia and the United States, while extracting the natural resources of the Arctic zone should do so with great responsibility because the side effects of environmental contamination, cultural degradation and greenhouse warming caused by the burning of fossil fuels affects humanity in general.

Challenges of climatic change: An Arctic perspective

Article Abstract:

Climatic change is being experienced intensely in the Arctic and an acceleration of these climatic trends owing to increases in concentrations of greenhouse gases in the earth's atmosphere would impact the planet as a whole. Changes in the climate that have taken place are manifested in the decrease in extent and thickness of Arctic sea ice, coastal erosion, changes in ice sheets and ice shelves and altered distribution and abundance of species.
