The role of on-site experience in landscape preferences: a case study at Donana National Park (Spain)

Article Abstract:

Landscape choices are significantly influenced by on-site experiences. Empirical studies of landscape valuations of visitors to Spain's Donana National Park reveal that on-site recreation and education programs stimulate positive environmental attitudes and promote landscape appreciation. These findings acquire added significance for anaesthetic environments such as Donana's wetland landscape. Designing recreational opportunities can facilitate visitors' interaction with the park's landscape and contribute to heightened appreciation of its unique features.

Influence of groundwater exploitation for urban water supply on temporary ponds from the Donana National Park (SW Spain)

Article Abstract:

The extraction of groundwater for urban supply is affecting the conservation of ponds inside the Donana National Park, Spain. The extraction of groundwater has reduced the level of the water table of some ponds close to the pumping area of the tourist center. The reduction in the water levels depends on how far the ponds are from the pumping area and on their altitude. The ponds closest to the pumping area have the largest reduction in the water table levels.
