"The status quo is a definite possibility." (Canadian opposition to provisions of GATT)

Article Abstract:

Canada strongly opposed some provisions of the Agricultural Agreement in GATT during the Uruguay Round of Multilateral Trade Negotiations. Canada anticipates adverse effects of GATT on the nation's agricultural industry by affecting tariffs, minimum import access and a possible increase in export subsidies. These factors could negatively influence supply-management in the economic front, thereby hindering the nation's agricultural trade.
