Automatic sorting for mixed plastics

Article Abstract:

Large-scale plastic recycling operations require automatic sorting devices to speed up the recycling process and to reduce contamination and production costs. The light transmission properties of the different resins used in manufacturing plastic containers is already being utilized to separate plastic materials. Similarly, molecular properties of the different resins can also be a basis for separation techniques. Different detectors and marker systems are also being developed to answer the need for automatic sorting devices of the plastic recycling industry.

Plastics recyclers stay on the cutting edge

Article Abstract:

Post consumer plastics recycling is undergoing innovations at processing and product development stages. Plastic recyclers have to consider many factors, such as flexibility in feedstock, efficiency and quality of the product, due to market unpredictability. Total Recycling uses optical technology to sort recyclables. The Kisspotlight system removes polyvinyl chloride contamination in PET and can differentiate plastics, thus making recycling cost-effective. Combined Plastics Recycling Inc. has developed cost-competitive mixed plastics products.
