Biosolids composting in New York state

Article Abstract:

A survey of municipal biosolids composting facilities in New York State aimed to determine the status of composting and the success of marketing programs. 28 composting facilities were operating in the state in the first quarter of 1998, with 23 reporting production of around 110 tons of compost a day.The most popular process is aerated static pile composting, and most of the compost is produced by in-vessel systems. End uses include landscape and genera contractors, public agencies, landfills, agriculture and homeowners. Several factors governed the marketability of compost, including product quality, screening and consistency and amendment type.

Composting methods at hotels and restaurants

Article Abstract:

Hotels and restaurants are patronizing composting since it lets them save money by composting rather than throwing everything to the landfill system. Hotel and restaurant staffs are tasked to separate the food residuals from materials made from paper such as napkins, towels and cups as well as to segregate compostables, recyclables and trash. Organic wastes are composted at a public facility to be used later as a soil amendment or sold while the others are given to residents and commercial enterprises.
