Compost impact on groundwater

Article Abstract:

Groundwater, which supplies half of the drinking water in the US, is threatened with nitrate contamination due to over use of inorganic fertilizer. A study done by Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station has revealed that application of high amounts of compost for three consecutive years can supply all fertilizer requirements without contaminating ground water with excess nitrate.
