Surveying residential yard trimmings practices

Article Abstract:

A high response rate was yielded as a result of the social marketing-based survey of compost bin users in Northern Oregon and also an air quality benefit of home composting was demonstrated. A need for additional bins, benefits and problems associated with home composting, level of satisfaction with the city-provided bins and education materials are evaluated as a result of the survey.

Using woody materials for erosion control

Article Abstract:

Research is presented on the use of wood residuals for mulch and erosion control, with evaluation categories such as particle size and type of wood. Wood waste berms were found to be more effective than silt fences or hay bales at controlling erosion, absorbing rainwater and promoting percolation.

Testing best management practices for storm water pollution prevention
