Composting yard trimmings in Ireland

Article Abstract:

Ireland has only one composting facility, operated and managed by the Parks Dept of Dublin Corp, which was established only as an answer to the number of Christmas trees that residents leave lying about in inappropriate places. The number of trees that the facility received in 1992 to be used as compost amounted to 30,000. The positive reaction by the public has increased the facility's business and has led to the improvement of the site and its expansion.

Processing materials from a wet dry collection

Article Abstract:

Waste management in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada, is based on a wet dry program, wherein a majority of the residential waste stream is directed to a central composting facility. The program involves the sorting and subsequent collection of wet and dry wastes, following which composting is carried out through high tech systems that facilitate contaminants management and diversion of wastes.
