Composting comes back to the big apple

Article Abstract:

Bureau of Waste Prevention, Reuse and Recycling (BWPRR) is a program initiated for New Yorkers for yard trimmings, as the New York City's size, infrastructure, and socioeconomic conditions create a unique, challenging environment for implementation of diversion and recycling programs. BWPRR conducted a pilot project to gauge the potential effectiveness of recovering recyclables through mixed waste processing and evaluate the possibility of composting the organic portion.

Blending green feedstocks at a Madrid composting facility

Article Abstract:

The compost manufactured at Migas Calientes in Madrid is used in gardens and municipal nurseries. The plant is divided into six areas that include material reception, product preparation, active phase of the process, maturation phase, sieving and storage. The analytical methodology and compost characterization process adopted for green waste compost (GWC) at this composting facility are discussed.

Composting activity in Catalonia

Article Abstract:

Catalonia, an Autonomous Community in northeastern Spain, is promoting composting as the best process for treatment of organic fraction of MSW. It is indicated that an increase in the number of composting plants has resulted in an increase in the selective collection of OFMSW.
