Curbside collection of compostables in England

Article Abstract:

A comprehensive curbside collection program and home composting enabled St Edmundsbury in England to meet waste management goals set by the government. Curbside collection involved a twin bin system which provided flexibility in the collection schedule. A brown bin for household waste was also provided to residents which is then collected for composting. The composting process is handled by County Mulch. So far, the program has resulted to a 20% recycling rate throughout the borough and officials anticipate that the 25% government target by the year 2000 will be met.
