Do contingent valuation estimates pass a "scope" test? A meta-analysis

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on the scope test proposed to assess the internal consistency of contingent valuation estimates. The test is observed to be sensitive to the maintained hypotheses needed to derive fairly precise expectations for the properties of willingness to pay functions. A different approach may be required to gauge the reliability of contingent valuation. An approach that relies on a weight-of-the-evidence criterion and uses meta-analysis to develop a systematic evaluation of what the economic values of changes in amenity resources are is also presented.

Buying time: real and hypothetical offers

Article Abstract:

People's willingness to accept real offers has not much difference with that of hypothetical offers. The willingness of customers to accept the opportunity to participate in telephone interviews with a corresponding payment shows how a choice is made and effort is expended before payment is made. Furthermore, the challenge of simulating real economic choices in an experimental setting is considerable.
