Do oil producers act as 'oil'igopolists?

Article Abstract:

An oligopoly model of exhaustable resource extraction is examined in light of data derived from oil industry data. Results from the analysis are supportive of the oligopoly theory and indicate that producers with large reserves have lower production costs and a lower ratio of cumulativeproduction compared to producers with smaller reserves. The pattern derived from the model is consistent with data from 73 countries and 400 US oil producing companies.
