FP International buys UK manufacturer

Article Abstract:

FP International has bought Flo-Pak UK from Macfarlane Group PLC of Glasgow, Scotland, for an undisclosed amount. FP International Pres Arthur Graham said Flo-Pak would be an integral of the company's growth plans. Flo-Pak has a manufacturing facility in Brackley, England, where it produces polystyrene loosefill packaging and 'Ultrawood' maintenance-free wood substitute, also from polystyrene. On the other hand, FP has recycled more than 62 million pounds of expanded polystyrene packaging since 1990, with 8.8 million pounds alone for 1999.

John Deere buys into Chinese equipment co

Article Abstract:

Deere & Co announced that it will acquire the 60% stake of GE Capital Corp and 20% stake of American Construction Equipment Co in Shanghai GE Construction Equipment Engineering Co of Shanghai, China. The other 20% will be held by Shanghai Urban Construction Investment & Development General Corp. Pres Pierre Leroy of John Deere's Worldwide Construction Equipment Div said they now have an opportunity to enter the rental industry in China and promote their construction machinery in the Chinese market.

Sinsmetal purchases Markovits & Fox

Article Abstract:

Sydney, Australia-based Simsmetal Ltd has announced its intention to buy San Jose, CA-based Markovits and Fox. Markovits and Fox began its scrap metals business in 1886 and has since established operations in California, Nevada and Arizona. It has annual sales in the $37-million range and handles around 70,000 tons of both ferrous and nonferrous metals. The purchase price for the family metals recycling company has not been disclosed.
