Mergers, acquisitions changing the face of the paper recycling industry

Article Abstract:

The significant changes occuring in the paper and paperboard industry will have profound effects on the paper recycling industry. Some paper companies have announced merger plans with other companies while others are selling mills that do not complement their core businesses. The overall condition of the scrap paper market seems to be stagnant, with some exceptions such as the paper grades market. One major trend in the upstream paper industry which will affect the recycling industry is the concentration of companies in one or a few commodity segments instead of several.
