Fate of weed seeds

Article Abstract:

Heat treatment is an effective means of preventing weed seeds within compost feedstocks from sprouting after compost application. A heat treatment temperature of 55 degrees Celsius is sufficient for destroying weed seeds from species such as pineapple-weed, annual meadowgrass, common chickweed, prickly sow-thistle and black nightshade.

Preventing erosion while preventing fires

Forest managers, communities and private companies are advocating the use of wood residuals as a part of their regional protection strategies. This strategy also helps to prevent erosion and forest fire.
