Exemption from legislated ban on landfilling yard trimmings denied

Article Abstract:

Iowa Governor Thomas Vilsack vetoed a line item in a bill that would have exempted the Metro Waste Authority from the state?s prohibition against sending yard trimmings to landfills. The exemption would have been a significant step away from integrated solid waste management goals. An excerpt from a letter sent by the Iowa Dept of Natural Resources to the governor is included.
